Projects Schedule

British packaging favourites in mixed media & inks, inspired by artist Georgina Luck

20th & 27th January

Students are introduced to the work of artist Georgina Luck and create a lively still life of much-loved British packaging, working from direct observation. They explore mixed media and inks, using Brusho crystals, masking fluid, dipping pens and fine line pens to capture bold colour, lettering, detail and texture. Please bring four items with British packaging to both weeks.

Spring allotment painting in acrylics, inspired by artist Garry Bunt

3rd & 10th February

Students look at the work of artist Garry Bunt and use photographic references to create a spring allotment scene. They build up layers of colour and texture in acrylics, using palette knives and water sprays to blend, scrape and soften their paint. They focus on composition, depth and creating a confident, expressive finish.

Half-term break (no class) Wednesday 17th February

Spring fields, loose and expressive, inspired by artist Kurt Jackson, in oil pastel resist, watercolour and gouache

24th February & 3rd March

Students look at the work of artist Kurt Jackson and create a loose, expressive landscape of spring fields. They combine oil pastel resist with layers of watercolour and gouache, building texture, movement and colour. They learn to work more freely and use the materials with expressive marks, while still keeping control of composition and depth.

Ammonite study in mixed media

10th & 17th March

Students study the spiral form of a fossil ammonite and bring together a range of media to create a rich, textured piece. They combine oil pastels, watercolour, gouache, Brusho crystals, masking fluid and pen work, focusing on pattern, tone and detail. They also learn how different materials can be layered and combined.

Eagle portrait on black paper in soft pastels

24th & 31st March

Students create a striking portrait of an eagle on black mixed media paper. They use soft pastels, charcoal and a white chalk pencil to build up feather detail and bring out the bird’s character. They work from dark to light, focusing on proportion, highlights, and blending and layering the pastels.

“I’ve been attending weekly art classes with Caroline for about two years now, having not done art since I was around 13 or 14 years old. Each term is wide ranging - materials, techniques and subject matter - so I’ve learned a lot. Each session is very absorbing and I now find that I look at the world with fresh eyes. Highly recommended.” - Ann Field
