Ready to start your creative journey? This 10-week Beginner’s Art Course is designed for those with little to no art experience. Learn foundational techniques while exploring a variety of mediums in a supportive, inspiring environment.

What You’ll Learn:
Drawing & Observation Skills
Build confidence in capturing shapes, proportions, detail, texture and tone.
Colour Theory & Mixing
Understand the basics of colour relationships to bring vibrancy to your artwork. Get to know about blending and colour application.
Painting Techniques
Explore different media including watercolours, acrylics, pastels, and coloured inks and lots more.
Project Schedule
Howling wolf portrait in chalk penciland black paper
9th & 16th September
Students look at creating an expressive drawing of a wolf in detail. They learn about proportion and achieving textures of fur, hair, and cold smoke to complete this portrait. Working on black mixed media paper and adding texture, detail, proportion, placement, shade and tone.
Autumn trees in one-point perspective in inks
23rd & 30th September
We look at a one-point perspective to create distance in an initial line drawing. The piece is completed with layers of blended inks using a variety of brushes. We work with alternate oil pastel textural marks, with layers of wet-on-wet washes. Finally adding darker linework for the tall, disappearing trees.
Autumn walk study in watercolour
7th & 14th October
Students observe the seasonal landscape. They continue the theme from our previous project, loosely working in one-point perspective using photographic visual referencing. They build the initial pencil drawing and add oil pastel resist. Adding more layers of blended watercolour to create depth and richness.
Glass still life study in drawing pencil
28th October & 4th November
Students work from observation on a pencil drawing with a focus on creating transparent layers, reflection, ellipses, and ovals. They’ll learn about pencil weights, tints, tone and shade, and textures. Working with a variety of drawing techniques to complete this study.
Autumn Grapevine painting in watercolours
11th & 18th November
Students look at the variety of colours and textures of a grapevine in autumn. They create a composition by looking at photographs in detail. Working in watercolour and coloured pencils to complete a rich painting study. They focus on observation, composition, texture, colour blending and application.
Half-term break (no class) Wednesday 21st October
