Ready to start your creative journey? This 10-week Beginner’s Art Course is designed for those with little to no art experience. Learn foundational techniques while exploring a variety of mediums in a supportive, inspiring environment.

What You’ll Learn:

Drawing & Observation Skills

 Build confidence in capturing shapes, proportions, detail, texture and tone.

Colour Theory & Mixing

Understand the basics of colour relationships to bring vibrancy to your artwork. Get to know about blending and colour application.

Painting Techniques

Explore different media including watercolours, acrylics, pastels, and coloured inks and lots more.

Leonardo de Vinci inspired Cow skull portrait in pencils

22nd & 29th January

Students create a dimensional study with a focus on symmetry, feature placement, proportion and texture.

Materials
Mid-tone coloured mixed media paper, a selection of drawing pencils, white pastel pencils erasers.

 

Misty landscape in watercolours

5th & 12th February

Students create a soft landscape with a focus on creating depth and distance. They build a painting with wet-on-wet layers.

Materials
Bockingford 320gsm hot pressed paper A3 size, Windsor and Newton watercolour tubes, water sprays, a variety of brushes, masking tape.

 
 

Half-term break (no class) - 19th February

 
 

Sardine study in line and wash

26th February & 5th March

Students work with coloured inks and pen work to create a still life close-up study using a selection of pens and coloured inks. They focus on detail, observation, texture, reflection, and techniques.

Materials
Bockingford 320 GSM hot pressed paper A3 size, ink crystals, permanent and water-based fine line pens, water sprays, masking tape and a selection of brushes.

 

Spring birds on a wire study in acrylics

12th & 19th March

Students focus on colour blending an application. They work on a panoramic shaped painting adding negative space towards the end of the painting.

Materials
Bockingford 320 GSM hot pressed paper, acrylic paints, disposable painting pallets, pallet knives, water sprays, masking tape and a selection of brushes.

 
 
 

Spring magnolia study in mixed media

26th March & 2nd April

Students work from observation to create a delicate painting. They look at detail and the forms of the magnolia branches and learn about creating hard and soft lines with colour. They create a metallic background as a contrast to the delicate shapes that they paint.

Materials
Bockingford 320 GSM watercolour paper, HP pencils, mini erasers, gold acrylic paint, masking fluid, watercolour paints and a selection of brushes and water sprays.
